Water Treatment & Distribution
The Water Treatment Division and Highway and Utilities Division of Concord General Services provide services for the treatment and distribution of potable water in Concord. The City of Concord has five water storage tanks that hold a total of 7.5 million gallons of water, which are used to regulate water distribution and are ready to maintain the water supply to the community in case of emergency situations. The water distribution system in Concord contains 172 miles of piping that delivers potable water to approximately 12,000 service connections.
Life depends on water, yet only 1% of the world’s water is suitable for use. Water is a valuable resource that we use daily for drinking, bathing, cooking, cleaning, agriculture, recreation, and fire protection. Public health depends on safe drinking water, and national standards are enforced to protect the public from contaminants in the water supply. The City of Concord processes the public water supply to meet these standards and to ensure a healthy community.

Water Treatment Plant
The water treatment plant was built in 1974 and has a 10 Million Gallon per Day (MGD) capacity, but is currently treating an average of 4 MGD for Concord water consumers. Water is used more frequently in the warmer months, so the plant treats an average of 5.5 MGD in the summer. The treatment process is a traditional surface water treatment that involves coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, and filtration. Treated water is then distributed throughout Concord to provide easy access to one of life’s basic necessities.
