Seed Library
The Vegetation Station seed library provides the public with over 50 seed varieties that include vegetables, herbs, and flowers. The station is located in an antique card catalog near the circulation desk and is self-serve.
How it works:
- Account for what you take using the seed sign-out sheet
- Please take only 10 packets total and only 2 packets per seed variety.
- Find growing instructions in the green binder and snap a pic for when it is time to plant
Seed Donations:
Consider donating leftover or harvested seeds:
- Donate leftover seeds that you purchased elsewhere or acquired from the library.
- If donating harvested seeds, please make sure they are clean and dry.
- Make sure to fill out the seed donation form. Forms are located at the seed library station on the Main Floor of the library. You can use any envelope to return seeds, but do include a Seed Donation Label with your returns. Donation forms ask for the following information:
- Seed's common name
- Seed variety
- Scientific name (if known)
- Source of seed
- Harvest year
Frequently Asked Questions:
Who funds the seed library?
The Vegetation Station is made possible the the Concord Public Library Foundation.
Where were the seeds acquired?
The 2025 seeds were acquired from Burpee.
When do the seeds expire?
Each seed variety is different, but seeds generally expire after two years.
How are the seeds organized and packaged?
The seeds are organized according to type: vegetable, herb, or flower. The seeds are packaged in small envelopes. Since many seed varieties are small (for instance, the size of a poppy seed), we recommend opening the envelopes with care.
How often is the library stocked?
The library is stocked 2-3 times per week. Seeds are available on a first come, first served basis. We recommend coming in early each season since varieties can be completely exhausted and won't be reordered until the next growing season.
