World Water Day - Why Waste Water?

World Water Day Wastewater
Wednesday, March 22, 2017 is World Water Day, a United Nations initiative to celebrate water and advocate for sustainable management of resources. This year, the theme is to reduce and reuse wastewater. We invite the Concord community to celebrate World Water Day by learning more about wastewater and to consider alternative actions to recycle water and minimize use. A simple action you can take is to use less water to generate less wastewater. Upgrading household fixtures to water efficient fixtures (such as WaterSense labeled products), instantly conserves water, reduces wastewater volumes, and can save you money! Let’s all be sure to reduce and reuse in celebration of World Water Day. Visit for more information.

Concord General Services Divisions

Street Maintenance
Road maintenance and repair are significant responsibilities of the Highways and Utilities Division of General Services. Potholes, paving, existing signs, sidewalks, water distribution, sewer collection, winter operations, dead animal removal, fall leaf collection, and the Sustainable Tree Program are all responsibilities of the Highways and Utilities Division. Street lights are maintained by Unitil and traffic lights are maintained by Concord Fire Department.

Trash & Recycling
The City of Concord currently contracts with Casella for all trash and recycling services. Visit the trash and recycling page for more information on our pay-as-you-throw program, single-stream recycling, household hazardous waste disposal, solid waste management, trash holidays, and for the route map.

Water Treatment & Distribution
Our Water Treatment Plant operates to deliver superior drinking water from Penacook Lake. The utility billing division generates and distributes invoices to the users of the city's water and sewer lines. The water and sewer utilities are fully supported through user charges.

Wastewater Treatment & Sewer Collection
Our Wastewater Treatment Division and Highway and Utilities Division provide services for the collection and treatment of wastewater for Concord and portions of Bow and Boscawen.

The city's ice arena is the Douglas N. Everett Arena located at 15 Loudon Road in Concord. The Everett Arena is the home of Concord Youth Hockey, Concord High Boy's and Girl's Hockey, Bishop Brady Boy's and Girl's Hockey, and Bow High School Boy's Hockey. It is also open for public skate during scheduled times.
